University of Connecticut’s School of Business Hosts 2005 CIDRIS Workshop

Storrs, CT (5/28/05) – The University of Connecticut’s School of Business recently hosted the First Annual CIDRIS Workshop. CIDRIS – the Center for Internet Data and Research Intelligence Services, was developed to establish the University of Connecticut as the leader in innovative real time Internet data collection, validation and analysis. Over thirty University of Connecticut faculty members, doctoral students and leading industry experts from across the country participated in this year’s cutting edge event.

Consistent with the multi-disciplinary potential use of Internet data, the CIDRIS team includes members from the fields of Operations and Information Management, Marketing, Computer Science, Statistics and Communication Science, with additional interest expressed from several other disciplines. CIDRIS is structured as a unique multidisciplinary research hub that provides services in:

Establishing means for intelligent collection of massive amounts of non-private data from the Internet

  • Ensuring reliability, cleanliness and validity to the collected data
  • Performing intelligent analytics and advanced data mining
  • Structuring quasi-experimental tools to support in-depth research field studies

This year’s CIDRIS Workshop featured presentations and roundtable discussions on the latest research findings by many of the CIDRIS Fellows and Partners in attendance. A snapshot of the topics discussed:

Online Auctions Research Streams

  • Online Music Research Streams: The Impact of Information Technologies on Music
  • E-Retailers Research Streams

The Current Activities of CIDRIS as well as the Future Directions of the Internet Research Center were also discussed by the CIDRIS Core Faculty, Research Fellows and Outside Partners. All in all, the event was a tremendous success, with the Second Annual CIDRIS Workshop planned for Summer 2006.
